In celebration of Science Week, a special talk on careers in Science, Technology and Engineering was held on Wednesday 11th of November.
The guest speaker was David Thompson, a local chartered engineer and Associate Director in WSP Dublin office, with over ten years experience in a wide range of transportation and infrastructure projects.
Prior to joining WSP he worked with Faber Maunsell and Arup consulting Engineers where he gained considerable experience in civil infrastructure projects. These projects included highway design, junction design, bridge inspections, waste water treatment systems, site investigation, flood studies, culvert design, storm water attenuation devices, drainage network modelling, traffic impact assessment and surveys.
David's talk clearly outlined the different branches of engineering and he used his own story to illustrate in an interesting and entertaining way the different paths and career possibilities available.
Afterwards students had a range of individual enquiries. David stayed behind and generously dealt with all questions.
Students have asked me to use this web-page to thank him for his presentation.
