Mike McKenna, class of '96, was praised for his actions during a recent fire on board his ship. Mike is captain of the Irish Ferries ship Oscar Wilde. On a recent return journey from its annual refit, a fire broke out in a generator room close to the engine.

Captain McKenna led his crew to contain the fire as specialists were airlifted to the ship. The fire was brought under control within an hour, after which the ship returned to port. Irish Ferries said they were very pleased with the way Captain McKenna and his crew handled the situation
