Change of Mind

Change of Mind

Changing your CAO course choices is free of charge from the 5th of May until the 1st of July at 5.15 pm.

Points to remember !

Make sure you have a good reason to change your choices.

A good reason is realising that the course you really want now is too low in your choices and needs to be moved up. Or there are courses you can add to your choices. Thinking you did badly in an exam and have no chance of getting the points is not a good reason to take something off your list. You may do better than you think. Only remove something if you definitely no longer want to do it.

Make sure your change of mind list really reflects your preferences in the order you want.

Remember the CAO will follow your order of preference and give you the highest choice for which you qualify. They will go up your order of choices in round 2 or 3 but never down.

Check the entry requirements for each course you choose.

It is easy to make changes without adequate research at this stage. Have you considered that the points may be low because it is a private college? Have you the subject combination needed for the course or the college ?

• Remember you need to rewrite the entire list of your choices each time you make a change.

This can be the time when you mix up your order of preference so it pays to ask yourself where the new courses fit in on the overall list first. Then write the list out by hand before you start changing your application. You may change the list of level 8 courses without changing your level 6 and 7 choices and vice versa.

Make sure you double check that the code you use matches the course you want.

It has been known to happen that a number or letter is input by mistake and you apply for something you had no intention of ever studying. Use the CAO handbook to find the codes and check the course titles. The handbook is on the CAO website if your own copy is not available.

• C
heck the statement of course choices you receive from the CAO.

The CAO will issue you with an updated statement of course choices if you use change of mind. This should arrive no later than the 7th of July.
Check that it accurately reflects the choices you want. Contact the Cao immediately if there is any problem. They can do nothing about it if you wait until August to tell them there is a mistake.
